Change is constantly occurring. It is usually not very rapid and therefore, it is generally imperceptible. Consequently, we do not realize that change has occurred until some significant alteration has transpired over an extended period of time. Such is the case with society’s outlook on personal identity, which has created a multitude of changes with the role of the LGBTQ+ community in the functions of life. Trueman’s book examines history and concludes that the change of how we define self has transpired over hundreds of years. He examines a number of factors that have contributed to the change such as: philosophy, psychology, religion, economics and technology, each interacting with the other to produce the change in ethics/morals of society today. He then examines the problems created by these changes, both for the ones who hold to the “new” outlook on identity as well as how they have affected how those who do not hold to the new outlook must respond to them. The book concludes with some thoughts on the dangers of what lies ahead as these changes continue to evolve and how the Christian can respond to them. The book reflects Trueman’s scholarly research, and yet it plainly explains some of the deeper concepts of psychology and philosophy so that every adult can understand. The study questions at the end of each chapter adapt the book for use in Sunday School lessons or small group discussions. EXCELLENT READ
